Since there is no practical way to cool the air under the hood more than a few degrees, you need to get ducting to where you can get cooler air. Not much point in most areas since ambient air is in the 90s.

There is a plastic bugle looking thing in the fender well.  Removing it can help promote increased airflow.  It unscrews and pulls out of the hole you have the cold air hooked up to.
There is a elbow to take air from behind the passenge's side parking lamp (in front of the battery) and takes that into the fender.  Pull out the parking lamp and you will get a more direct shot. Grin

What type of temp gain are you seeing (outside temp vs at the TBI)? I would think that the OE set up, drawing from the fender (hot air disabled), would be pretty good. Though with the filter housing getting saturated with underhood heat, seems like a 10-20* gain would be reasonable. Some of the cone-filter intake kits I've seen have very little shielding and appear to be drawing under hood air. Of course the intake sound is sweet.

Rock, he has the Volant (?) cold air system. I assumed that it would take the fender ducting out of the picture.

If not, Banks makes a replacement duct that fits in the fender that has large openings. Next is to remove the venturi from the intake noise suppressor bolted to the fender in the engine compartment. I removed the baffle inside the air cleaner housing that made the air turn 90 degrees on entering. Last was a K&N filter element.

With all the restrictions removed, the factory routing was pretty good.

The last line in his post mentiond it being hooked up tot eh fender still.  Interested in the Banks fender replacement.  When I pulled that thing out of there it was really sad how small of an opening it was using up front. Lips Sealed

Wonder if I pull the grille off if you could make a hole behind the lights to duct air right into the fender gap?  May be a bit ugly, got some mods to the grille itself between the beadlight and parking lamp could allow a ram air effect if it can be aligned. Undecided

With the large volume compartment behind the grill, lack of sealing of the compartment and the irregular shape, I doubt that there would be much ram effect. At speed that could be a low pressure area. You would be ensuring that there was ample cooler air to be drawn from with a hole in the core support, but I wouldn't bother.
